Instructions

  1. Cook the Bacon: In a large stockpot, cook chopped bacon over medium-high heat until crispy (about 10 minutes). Remove bacon and set aside, leaving drippings in the pot.
  2. Sauté Onions and Garlic: Add diced onions and minced garlic to the bacon drippings. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until onions are caramelized.
  3. Add Cabbage: Stir in the sliced cabbage and cook for another 10 minutes until softened.
  4. Season and Simmer: Add salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Lower heat, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until the cabbage is tender.
  5. Finish and Serve: Stir in the cooked bacon, taste, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot.

Notes

  • To keep the cabbage moist, cover the pot with aluminum foil during the simmering process.
  • For a smokier flavor, increase the paprika or add a dash of smoked paprika.
  • This recipe can be made vegetarian by substituting the bacon with olive oil or butter and adding smoked paprika.
