Description

Classic Grape-Nuts Custard is a delightful, creamy dessert that combines the smooth texture of traditional custard with the unique crunch of Grape-Nuts cereal. This comforting dish is perfect for a simple, satisfying dessert that can be enjoyed warm or chilled.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups milk, scalded
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup Grape-Nuts cereal
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  • Mix Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the slightly beaten eggs, granulated sugar, and salt. Gradually add the scalded milk, stirring continuously. Add vanilla extract and mix well. Stir in the Grape-Nuts cereal.
  • Prepare Baking Dish: Pour the custard mixture into an 8×8-inch baking dish. Place the dish in a large roasting pan and fill the pan with hot water, reaching halfway up the sides of the custard dish.
  • Bake: Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool and Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or chilled, with a topping of cream or Cool Whip if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is scalded but not boiling to prevent curdling.
  • The custard is done when it is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  • Adjust baking time if using different-sized dishes.
