Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough (optional):
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce
- 1/2 lb thinly sliced salami
- 1/2 lb thinly sliced pepperoni
- 1/2 lb thinly sliced ham
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Optional: Sliced bell peppers, olives, or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor
Instructions
- Prepare the dough:
- If making dough from scratch, combine warm water and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Mix in flour, salt, and olive oil, kneading until smooth. Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
- Alternatively, use store-bought pizza dough.
- Preheat oven:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough:
- Roll out the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick. Spread marinara sauce over the surface, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Layer the filling:
- Evenly layer salami, pepperoni, ham, and mozzarella over the dough. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning on top. Add optional veggies, if desired.
- Roll and seal:
- Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seams and ends to seal.
- Brush and bake:
- Place the Stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg for a golden crust.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Slice and serve:
- Let the Stromboli cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing into pieces. Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping!
Notes
- Customize the filling with your favorite Italian meats, cheeses, and veggies.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for the best texture.
- Add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick!
