Description

Homemade strawberry jam is a simple yet delightful preserve made from fresh strawberries. This easy-to-follow recipe captures the essence of strawberries, enhanced with the natural pectin from lemon juice and the sweetness of sugar, making it a perfect homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of fresh strawberries, hulled and coarsely chopped
  • 4 cups of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: In a large bowl, mash the strawberries using a potato masher to your desired consistency.
  2. Cook the Jam: Transfer the mashed strawberries to a large saucepan. Add sugar and lemon juice. Stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Boil: Increase the heat to high and bring the mixture to a full rolling boil. Boil, stirring often, until the mixture reaches 220°F (104°C) on a candy thermometer.
  4. Jar: Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims clean, and seal with lids and bands.
  5. Process: Process in a water bath canner for 10 minutes.

Notes

  • Ensure the jars are sterilized to prevent contamination.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar based on your preference for sweetness.
  • If you prefer a smoother jam, you can puree the strawberries instead of mashing them.
